Takeda Scion tC Short Ram Intake

Takeda, a division of advanced FLOW engineering, is a manufacturer that specializes bolt-on, aftermarket, performance products. It recently released a new short ram intake system (#TR-2001P) for the popular 2008-2009 Scion tC. The 2.4L 2AZ-FE inline-4 in the coupe is a solid performer with 160hp and 163lb-ft of torque from the factory but what power was left on the table?

Most of you are here because you want your car to look better, handle better and make more power. Nothing beats investing a few short hours into your car in order to unlock some real power. It is widely known that factory air-boxes are restrictive, too quiet and, well, they look ridiculous – the Scion is no exception. The major benefits of installing an air intake system are that you will add some more power, more torque and a noticeably quicker response as acceleration times improve. The collateral benefit is that the engine will have more of an aggressive growl by opening up the air passageways to make sweet music at all RPMs. For the tree-huggers out there, if you aren’t stomping on the throttle on a regular basis, the fuel economy is far better too.

By replacing the bulky and inefficient factory intake, the Takeda Short Ram air intake increases air volume and improves air velocity. What this means to the end user is increased horsepower, torque and juicy throttle response. Much of the performance of this intake is due to its specific design and construction that Takeda uses.

The Takeda short ram intake for the tC includes a 3-angle air filter adaptor, a clear-coat anodized maintenance free polished tube, a wrinkle black housing (to keep unwanted engine heat away from the filter), Pro Dry S filter, and all necessary hardware to make this a pain-free install. All Takeda air intakes use the innovative Pro Dry S filter from aFe, which uses a progressive synthetic media that requires no oil, greater convenience, and simple maintenance. The filter boasts a 99.2-percent rate of filtration to keep dust and debris out of your precious engine.

The install on the Scion tC was simple and the resulting power gains were impressive. The final result was a solid 8 whp and 10 lb-ft. of torque, proving that the factory air-box is truly restrictive. The Takeda unit outflows the factory box by 41 percent and gives the 4-banger more power, a quicker response and an aggressive tone that will get noticed. All Takeda intakes are backed by a lifetime warranty too, making them an ideal choice when you want to give your engine a breath of fresh air.
