Magma is Genesis high-performance division designed to compete with the likes of well-established German marques such as Audi RS, BMW M, and Mercedes-AMG.

In addition, Genesis also revealed a mid-rear engined supercar concept called the Magma GT Concept.

These reveals align with Genesis’ plans to field a two-car, factory-backed racing program that will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in the top-level LMDh (Le Mans Daytona h) class, beginning in 2026, and in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship in 2027 (see photo below).

As for the GV60 Magma, it is slated to go on sale in Genesis’ home market of Korea in early 2026, followed by rollouts in Europe and North America later in the year.

Full Genesis USA press release follows below.

LE CASTELLET, France, Nov. 20, 2025 — Genesis is embarking on the next chapter of its journey with its “Luxury High Performance” positioning as the cornerstone of the brand’s evolution over the next 10 years.

Genesis hosted its Magma World Premiere today at Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France, where it debuted the GV60 Magma—the brand’s first high-performance production model—and the Magma GT Concept, a model that symbolically defines the direction of Genesis’ performance heritage for the next decade. The Magma GT Concept embodies the essence of the brand’s approach to luxury and performance, going beyond sheer speed to reveal a balanced expression of refined luxury and authentic motorsport spirit.

Along with the unveiling, Genesis also revealed its vision to solidify its position as a true luxury brand by embodying the concept of Luxury High Performance, a seamless fusion of refined elegance and superior performance. Together, the GV60 Magma and the Magma GT Concept bring this vision to life, showcasing the dual pillars of production-ready capability and future-focused performance ambition. Building on a decade of success in the global premium car market as an independent marque, this new direction sets the stage for Genesis’ next chapter.

José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company & Genesis said, “Genesis achieved one million global sales faster than any luxury marque in history. Magma represents our declaration that the next ten years will be even more significant. We're not just building high-performance vehicles; we're redefining what a luxury high performance brand can be when Korean innovation meets global ambition."

Genesis' Luxury High-Performance Vision

Genesis defines Luxury High Performance as distinct from the conventional approaches to performance centered on horsepower or speed. At its core, this vision blends the true essence of luxury—defined by refined elegance and elevated experiences—with seamless, effortless performance that enhances every aspect of the driving journey.

Luc Donckerwolke, President and Chief Creative Officer of Genesis, said, “Magma reveals a new facet of Genesis, one that elevates the brand towards true luxury through performance. It shows how emotion and precision can coexist in perfect harmony, defining a more confident and mature expression of Genesis. Through Magma, we’re injecting adrenaline into the Genesis DNA while preserving the elegance and balance that define true luxury.”

Genesis’ vision for Luxury High Performance builds on the brand’s “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy by bringing it into the high-performance space. It prioritizes balanced power, finely tuned driving dynamics and seamless harmony between driver and vehicle, rather than relying on excessive energy or intensity.

The GV60 Magma is the first production model to bring this new high-performance vision to life, laying the foundation for the forthcoming Magma model.

GV60 Magma: First to Embody Genesis’ High-Performance Innovation and Bold Vision

The GV60 Magma is the first production model of the GV60 Magma concept unveiled last year, officially marking Genesis' entry into the high-performance realm. Genesis' exploration of high-performance innovation—showcased through its GV80 Coupe Concept, X Gran Berlinetta

Concept, and G80 Magma Special has finally been realized in a production model with the GV60 Magma.

The GV60 Magma serves as a clear representation of the philosophy and core technological vision that will define Genesis’ future Magma lineup.

Genesis Magma is defined by three key attributes:

Design (Unspoken Dominance) – A dynamic yet elegant look achieved through a low, wide stance, embodying both Genesis' signature sophistication and athleticism.

Driving Sensation (Captivating Control) – Precise control of power and vehicle behavior, enabling seamless movement in any driving conditions.

User Experience (Sharpened Immersion) – Intuitive delivery of essential driving information, enhancing focus and creating an immersive driving experience.

Encompassing the Genesis Magma Philosophy Through Design

Design is the most tangible expression of the Genesis Magma philosophy. The GV60 Magma's design emphasizes the presence of “subtle, untapped power,” steering away from overtly ostentatious or aggressive styling.

The front of the GV60 Magma boasts a stable and confident stance, achieved through its wider proportions and lower height compared to the standard GV60. The bumper has been redesigned with a new three-hole structure, which not only enhances airflow and cooling performance but also serves as a distinctive identifying feature unique to the Magma model.

Black high-gloss molding, dark metal accents and streamlined canards elevate the high-performance aesthetic with a focus on a sleek, monochromatic palette.

The car’s side profile emphasizes its low and wide proportions by lowering the overall height by 20 mm and incorporating wide fenders, Magma-exclusive 21-inch forged wheels and 275 mm tires. The side skirts feature three-hole details, mirroring the front design, and are integrated with the breather line to optimize airflow. Glossy black finishes on the window frames and exterior moldings further enhance the streamlined aesthetic while minimizing the use of chrome for a sleek and modern look.

The functional rear wing-type spoiler not only serves as a visual element but also generates downforce. The newly designed rear bumper combines the body color with black accents, while the lower diffuser structure has been engineered to enhance aerodynamic performance.

The interior combines premium materials for a sporty vibe. The seats, door trim and center console are adorned with Chamude, a premium suede-like material. The Magma model's distinct color identity is showcased through orange and gray stitching, quilting details and seat belts. Buttons, switches and emblems feature black high-gloss or dark metal finishes, minimizing reflective glare and contributing to a composed, elegant interior ambience.

The steering wheel is adorned with elements exclusive to Magma, including a distinct rim design, black emblem and orange accents on the drive mode and boost buttons.

Delivering the Highest Level of Driving Performance

The GV60 Magma is positioned among the models that deliver the highest level of performance within Hyundai Motor Group. From a performance perspective, the primary development goal was to achieve a sense of control that precisely aligns with the driver's intent, prioritizing the "perfection of driving control.”

The front and rear motors generate a combined maximum output of 448 kW (601 horsepower) and peak torque of 740 Nm. When Boost Mode is activated, the performance rises to 478 kW (641 horsepower) and 790 Nm, with a top speed of 264 km/h.

Notably, the maximum output range of the rear motor has been extended to ensure stable performance even during high-power driving. Additionally, Boost Mode enhances output and torque for approximately 15 seconds, maximizing acceleration responsiveness. This enables the GV60 Magma to accelerate from a standstill to 200 kilometers per hour in just 10.9 seconds with the Launch Control function. Beyond delivering quick initial acceleration, the car also maintains consistent power output at higher speeds.

Launch Control delivers optimal starting torque from a standstill, enabling rapid and responsive acceleration at launch. The GV60 Magma also offers three drive modes: Sprint, GT, and MY. In MY Mode, drivers can customize settings for the electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and other performance parameters.

The suspension system has been optimized by recalibrating the roll center and refining the geometry. It also features Electronic Control Suspension (ECS) and End-of-Travel (EoT) control systems, delivering an ideal balance of cornering stability and ride comfort. Hydro G-Bushings in the front suspension and dual-layer bushings in the rear crossmember effectively minimize vibrations and impacts.

Furthermore, the braking system is upgraded with front monoblock calipers and large-diameter discs, optimized for the 21-inch wheels, and rear brakes featuring GG-rated high-friction materials, enhancing overall braking performance.

Despite riding on wide tires, the GV60 Magma maintains the serene cabin quietness expected of a luxury high-performance car. This is achieved through the combination of Active Noise Control-Road, sound-insulating glass and reinforced door sealing.

A Dedicated Digital Interface

The GV60 Magma is equipped with a dedicated digital interface, sound design and driving feedback system specifically designed to make the driving experience more immersive.

Activating “Magma Mode” transforms the instrument cluster into a 3-circle layout, prominently displaying essential driving data, including motor and battery temperatures, speed and G-force. Additionally, the Head-Up Display provides a simplified view of key information such as speed, regenerative braking levels and remaining boost time.

The infotainment system also supports an array of Magma-exclusive high-performance driving features such as the Virtual Gear Shift System (VGS), Drift Mode, and High-Performance Battery Control (HPBC).

The VGS feature adjusts motor output, torque and regenerative braking to replicate the shifting sensations and driving dynamics of a high-performance internal combustion engine vehicle while simultaneously reproducing the sound of a high-revving engine to deliver an immersive and emotionally engaging driving experience.

When VGS and HPBC are engaged, the cluster also displays performance-oriented metrics—including a performance timer and pedal input levels—delivering key driving data in a clear and intuitive format.

Drift Mode combines power distribution and e-LSD to support rear-wheel-focused driving, while HPBC optimizes battery temperature for peak performance during racing or drag driving.

Magma GT Concept: Forging the Path to Performance Heritage

At the Genesis Magma World Premiere, Genesis also introduced the Magma GT Concept to the world for the first time. Far from being just a show car, this concept serves as a road map for how Genesis plans to establish its performance heritage in the years to come. This aligns with the brand strategy outlined at the recent Hyundai Motor Company’s CEO Investor Day event in New York in September.

At the time, Genesis announced its intention to develop the Magma GT Concept into a performance icon, or halo car. The marque also shared its goal to compete in the GT racing class.

The Evolution of the Magma Program

During the Magma World Premiere, Genesis showcased past concept vehicles and prototype models that are part of the Magma umbrella, such as the GV80 Coupe Concept, G80 Magma Special, G80 EV Magma Concept, GV60 Magma Concept, G70 Track Taxi Nordschleife, G80 Magma Special Prototype, X Gran Berlinetta Concept, X Gran Racer Concept, X Gran Coupe Concept, G90 Wingback Concept, the GMR-001 Hypercar, and the Magma GT Concept. The showcase underscored that the Magma Program is not a short-term endeavor but a project developed through extensive experimentation and innovation over the years.

Magma is not a program derived from a single model but a high-performance experimental journey, evolving through iterative development of design, driving performance and technological innovation based on concept cars.

The GV80 Coupe Concept, the first model to sport Magma Orange, was recognized for redefining and pushing the boundaries of conventional luxury design.

The G80 Magma Special was realized through joint development with high-performance partners, while the X Gran Berlinetta Concept stands as a prime example of Genesis' direction for high-performance design.

At the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K., the GV60 Magma Concept participated in the Sunday Shootout, achieving a remarkable class win in the “4-Seater Production Car” category. The model completed the 1.86-kilometer course in just 52.72 seconds, heightening anticipation for its production viability and technological sophistication.

Through these stages, the GV60 Magma was able to incorporate the design direction and driving technologies refined during the experimental phase, serving as a benchmark for the future expansion of the Magma Program.

Starting with the Korean market at the start of the year, the GV60 Magma will be introduced to European and N. American markets in 2026, bringing Luxury High Performance to drivers across the globe.

Photos courtesy of Genesis USA

After spending the last 18 months showing renderings and concepts, Genesis has finally taken the wraps off its first Magma car, the GV60 Magma, a compact EV SUV.

Chopping Block: BMW Z4 2025-11-27T00:09:59+00:00 2025-11-27T00:09:59+00:00 /extras/industry-insight/chopping-block-bmw-z4 Lee Bailie
After a brief respite, we’re back to catalogue another sad milestone: the passing of another passenger car. This time, it’s BMW’s long-running Z4 convertible, a car that has been in the Munich-based automaker’s lineup since 1995.

In fact, the Z4’s roots stretch back even further, to the Z1, which went on sale in 1989. However, only 8,000 built until it went out of production in 1991. The Z1 never came to North America, officially at least, and most (80 percent) were sold in Germany.

The first mass-market BMW Z roadster was the Z3 which debuted in 1995. Its launch was greatly aided by BMW’s three-film deal to become the official car of the James Bond film franchise. The first movie to feature Bond driving the Z3 was GoldenEye which starred Pierce Brosnan as agent 007. It was released worldwide in November 1995.

BMW retired the Z3 in 2002, and replaced it with the first Z4, known internally as the E85. In 2008, a new Z4 (E89) was introduced, followed by the current G29 model in 2018. Many variants, both non-M and M marked the Z4’s run, with several four and six-cylinder turbo engines paired with both automatic and manual transmissions. But they were always rear-wheel drive.

And now, it’s time for the Z4 to bow out. We’ve known this day was coming for a while, given the Z4 is the product of a BMW-Toyota joint venture that also produced the Toyota Supra. Toyota announced the current Supra would go out of production in 2026, which meant that the Z4 would also likely bow out then. BMW has not announced a direct replacement, so the Z Series roadster might be gone for good.

In a statement, which we’ve pasted below, BMW announces the Z4 Final Edition. This car, an M40i variant, is limited production and will be available in BMW Individual Frozen Black metallic only, with either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission.

BMW also notes, the car will be built in “very small numbers” between February and April 2026. Translation: interested parties should get to their local BMW dealers soon.

Full BMW USA press release follows below.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – November 25, 2025 – Since its introduction in 2002, the BMW Z4 Roadster has been thrilling enthusiasts with its unique combination of classic proportions, a purist driving experience, and sporty dynamics. The seatbelts are trimmed in the M tricolor.

The Z4 Final Edition comes as standard with a full range of comfort, convenience, and safety features, including the Driving Assistance Package, Premium Package, and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.

The history of the BMW Z4: Launch of the first generation in 2002.

The BMW Z4 is part of a long tradition of open-top two‑seater sports cars. The lineage includes icons such as the BMW 328 Roadster, the BMW 507, and the BMW Z8.

The BMW Z4 had its premiere in autumn 2002, as the direct successor to the BMW Z3 launched in 1995. And, like its predecessor, the BMW roadster known internally as the E85 series was produced at the BMW Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina.

With its long hood and short trunk, the design of the BMW Z4 signalled power and sporting prowess. In the cabin, the low seating position just ahead of the rear axle made for a highly engaging driving experience. The BMW Z4 set new standards with a torsional stiffness previously unmatched in the convertible and roadster segment. Its supreme agility was due in large part to its 50/50 weight distribution. The BMW Z4 M Roadster was the first generation’s range-topper. Fitted with the 330 hp six-cylinder in-line engine from the BMW M3, it could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5.0 seconds.

The second BMW Z4 generation: Unchanged dynamic appeal, electro-hydraulic retractable hardtop as standard.

In December 2008, BMW introduced the second generation of the Z4 to the world. The new two-seater, known internally as the E89, combined classic proportions with leading-edge engineering.

Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the new Z4 was the electro-hydraulically retractable hardtop made up of two roof sections. Featuring an aluminium shell design, the hardtop was included as standard and could be opened or closed at the touch of a button in just 20 seconds. With the hardtop in place, the BMW Z4 offered the refined comfort of a sporty premium coupé. The interior of the new BMW Z4 had gained much over the first-generation model in terms of headroom and elbow room. In addition, this marked the first time the roadster used the BMW iDrive infotainment system.

The third-generation BMW Z4: Modern interpretation of the classic open-top sports car.

BMW premiered the third – and current – generation of the BMW Z4 in August 2018 on the reviewing stand at the Lodge at Pebble Beach at the opening of Monterey Car Week. The BMW Z4 world premiere revealed a modern interpretation of the classic open-top sports car. A premium roadster boasting an electrically operated fabric softtop, sporty handling, and a purist, driver-focused interior design. This was complemented by premium-quality driver assistance, infotainment, and connectivity features. Unique in the segment is the three-liter straight-six engine with TwinPower Turbo technology found in the BMW Z4 M40i, which has been offered with a manual transmission since 2024 as the Edition Handschalter.

Z4 Final Edition Features and Equipment.

BMW Individual Frozen Black Metallic Paint
Vernasca/Alcantara Leather Interior with Red Contrast Stitching
Black High-Gloss Interior Trim
M Seat Belts
19/20” M Dual-Spoke Bicolor 800M Wheels with Staggered Performance Tires
M Sport Brakes with Red Calipers

Shadowline Package
- Mirror Caps in Black
- Adaptive Full LED Lights
- Extended Shadowline Trim

Driving Assistance Package
- Park Distance Control
- Active Blind Spot Detection
- Speed Limit Info
- Lane Keeping Assistant
- Forward Collision Mitigation

Premium Package
- Ambient Lighting
- Parking Assistant
- Head-Up Display
- Active Park Distance Control with Side Protection

Harman Kardon Surround Sound System
Moonlight Black Softtop

Photos courtesy of BMW USA

After a brief respite, we’re back to catalogue another sad milestone: the passing of another passenger car. The initiative, called The Masterpieces, focuses on limited-run, factory-correct restorations of the S30 chassis cars, with the first example set to cross the auction block on October 23, 2025, on Bring a Trailer in the United States.

Unlike modernized restomods or personalized builds, the Masterpieces program is designed to return each car to the precise condition it left the factory in more than five decades ago. The restorations adhere strictly to the original specifications, from drivetrain and interior to the smallest factory fasteners and clips. Each car retains its original color inside and out, and every component is either restored or remanufactured to factory standards.

"No expense or effort will be spared to achieve this peak level of quality," says Chris Visscher, founder of S30.world. A particular emphasis is placed on bodywork. Each shell is brought back to its original form with no visible trace of repair, welding, or modification, even under detailed inspection. Spot welds are recreated with the same pattern and method used at Nissan’s facilities during the original production run.

The work has already drawn recognition from those closest to the car’s origins. In October 2024, Takeo Miyazaki - part of Nissan’s original S30 development team - personally evaluated three completed cars. After driving them, he remarked that the restorations "truly brought him back in time and that he was amazed with the perfection in details."

The inaugural auction will be hosted on Bring a Trailer, timed deliberately to align with both the S30’s history and Nissan’s broader heritage. October 23, 2025, marks 56 years since the model’s debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1969. The date also connects to Nissan’s longstanding association with the number 23, which carries a phonetic link in Japanese - “ni” for two and “san” for three, together forming “ni-san.” The number has since become a symbol for the brand, especially in motorsport.

"The commitment to quality and accuracy exhibited in these restorations is unsurpassed. I am excited to partner with S30.world and bring these special 240Z's to market," says Adam Eisenhauer of Garage 44, the U.S.-based firm coordinating the sales.

With The Masterpieces, S30.world is positioning the 240Z not just as a classic car to be preserved, but as a cultural landmark to be experienced as it was in period. The auction will open the first of these cars to collectors and enthusiasts who value accuracy over interpretation.

S30.world has announced a project that takes a focused approach to the preservation of the Datsun 240Z and its Fairlady Z counterpart. Another week, another sedan gets retired. Sometimes the car receives a send-off with a limited production final edition model (Lexus RC), but usually a press release confirming end of production (Acura TLX, Audi A7 and S7) is all we get.

In the case of the flagship LS sedan, Lexus is opting for the former. The big Lexus will receive a special send-off with a limited production model to commemorate a car that began the Lexus brand. The LS, along with the mid-size ES, were the two cars that launched Lexus in 1989 as 1990 models.

Through five generations, the LS has often served as a technology carrier for Lexus, while also serving as the brand’s standard bearer for design, craftsmanship, and driving dynamics. It was the original “relentless pursuit of perfection” model, as those of us old enough to remember witnessed during many of its 1990s TV ad campaigns.

But after 36 years, declining sales have forced Lexus parent company Toyota’s hand. While the LS reliably sold 20,000 units or more in the U.S. through 2008, the last 17 years have seen steady decline. The 10,000-unit mark hasn’t been hit since 2013, and sales have dropped significantly since the Covid pandemic. Just 2,163 LS units were sold in the U.S. in 2024, and only 691 have left dealership lots this year through Q2 (June 30).

So, the handwriting, as they say, was on the wall. With that in mind, the LS will bow out in 2026 with a Heritage Edition limited production model. Just 250 units will make it to the U.S., with another five headed to Canada.

Scroll down for the official statement from Lexus USA, which includes product details and pricing. Of note, pricing for Canada has not been released. The 2026 LS goes on sale there next year. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

PLANO, Texas (Sep. 26, 2025) – Over the past 36 years, the Lexus LS has defined what a flagship luxury sedan should be: the perfect balance of performance, innovation, and timeless comfort. The engine features a lip shape on the piston top to help realize low emissions and quiet operation when the engine is cold. The wastegate control on the twin-turbo engine provides stable opening and closing of the valve to enhance performance efficiency. The 10-speed automatic transmission aids in keeping the engine in a more responsive area of its power band.

The LS 500 can deliver a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds. The driver can tailor powertrain response and feel by choosing from Eco, Comfort, Normal, Custom, Sport S, or Sport S+ modes. The AWD system features a Torsen® limited-slip center differential to further enhance grip, traction, and cornering stability.

Technology and Convenience Features

Lexus Interface with standard 12.3-inch touchscreen

A standard 12.3-inch, high-definition touchscreen provides easy-to-use controls and clear information to the driver and front-seat passenger.
